People and institutions

From the archive papers appear numerous stories about places and institutions, but most of all about people: directors, benefactors, tenants, farm workers, chaplains… and in the background the multitude of poor people who were helped day after day by the Luoghi Pii Elemosinieri or charity houses, few traces, however, having been left of their lives.

Farms and their land

Landed estates owned by the Luoghi Pii Elemosinieri played an important role in sustaining the caregiving provided by charity houses: rent was in the form of money or in kind, products destined for the poor were therefore either bought with income from rent or received directly from the farms themselves.
