Giacomo Martinez nasce a Milano il 4 febbraio 1808 e frequenta l’Accademia di Brera dove studia sotto la guida di Luigi Sabatelli e di Francesco Hayez. Si dedica alla pittura di figura partecipando alla esposizione di Brera del 1837 con Sacra Famiglia e Autoritratto.
Per l’Amministrazione dei Luoghi Pii Elemosinieri di Milano esegue i ritratti dei benefattori Giovanni Battista Birago (1847) e di Giacomo Mellerio (1851), oggi all’ASP Golgi-Redaelli di Milano; negli anni successivi opera in prevalenza come restauratore pittorico.
Giacomo Martinez muore a Milano l’1 agosto 1871.
